Plant Lover's Jar, a natural cosmetics workshop

We believe that there are many plant lovers among new residents of Rijeka so we'll have a workshop on Thursday, 14 May at 6 p.m. especially designed for all of you coming from other countries. Don’t worry, the workshop is bilingual and will be conducted in both Croatian and English.

What is it about?

On the small green patch in front of the library grows yarrow (Achillea millefolium), a plant that has long held an important place in traditional herbal medicine. In this workshop, we will explore its properties, as well as oats (Avena sativa), one of the gentlest natural allies for sensitive skin.

In the hands-on part, participants will grind dried yarrow themselves and mix it with oat flour in a mild, nourishing blend, which is then used to fill their jars. The resulting herbal powder can be used in two ways: as a face mask mixed with water or a suitable hydrosol, or as a gentle herbal facial water prepared like an infusion.

At the end of the workshop, participants will design and decorate labels for their jars. Each participant will also receive a small bilingual instruction sheet.

Everything is dry, clean, and free of preservatives, so the jars can be stored for months. The workshop is simple and practical, combining plants, herbal tradition, and a creative DIY approach.

Each participant will take home their Plant Lovers’ Jar, a small, handmade herbal blend for facial care.
